Inside About Us
About the Pew Center
The Pew Center on Global Climate Change brings together business leaders, policy makers, scientists, and other experts to bring a new approach to a complex and often controversial issue. Our approach is based on sound science, straight talk, and a belief that we can work together to protect the climate while sustaining economic growth.
At the Pew Center, we are . . .
. . . producing first-rate analyses of key climate issues. Over the past ten years, the Pew Center has issued over 100 reports from top-tier researchers on key climate topics such as economic and environmental impacts and practical domestic and international policy solutions. The Pew Center distributes its reports to more than 4,000 opinion leaders throughout the world with thousands more downloaded monthly from the Center's website. The research is regularly featured in major news stories from the Associated Press, Nature Magazine, The New York Times, and other media.
. . . working to keep policy makers informed. The Pew Center's Eileen Claussen and staff regularly hold briefings with members of Congress, key Executive Branch officials as well as state and international leaders. In addition, the Pew Center has played an active role in bringing business leaders and policymakers together to discuss policy frameworks and workable solutions to climate change. Our research informs our discussions with policymakers.
. . . engaging the business community in the search for solutions. Top companies are coming together to share strategies and insight. We work with 42 major corporations in our Business Environmental Leadership Council (BELC). These primarily Fortune 500 companies together employ nearly 4 million people and represent over $2 trillion in combined revenues—and they're working with us to shape policy and chart practical solutions to climate change. These corporations meet quarterly, participate in workshops and conferences, and review and offer comment on all Pew Center work. To maintain our independence, the Pew Center accepts no monetary contributions from BELC companies.
. . . and reaching out to educate the key audiences. Pew Center staff members participate in scores of speaking engagements each year before audiences of business leaders, government officials, academics, students, and the general public. In addition, information and perspectives from the Pew Center are regularly featured in major national and international media, including The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Economist, National Public Radio, and CNN.
